Hand Fasting Ritual

Seasons of the Moon
Found at Daughters of Earth Wisdom Coven Website

Beltane is a special time of year, with love and lust in the air. Beltane, because of its association with fertility, love, and sexual desire, was seen as an excellent time to marry one’s beloved. If you are considering having a handfasting ceremony, renewing your vows, or want to affirm them in a pagan ceremony, consider performing your own handfasting ritual this Beltane season!

Preparation

  • Long ribbon or soft rope (~ 3 feet)
  • Vows to exchange (written by the couple)
  • Small gifts (or rings) to be exchanged by the couple.
  • 5 rose candles (Quarter and god candle (god candle can be red))
  • 1 white candle (Goddess candle)
  • Gifts from the coven/guests for the couple

Ritual
Cast the circle normally. Invoke the Goddess and God normally, or as below. If no HPs are available or you are a solitary, work all elements of the ritual yourself.
HPriest:

We call upon you in the guise of Eros,
Kindler of desire,
Bringer of love,
to join us here and witness the bonding
of _____and_____.

HPriestess

We call upon you in the guise of Aphrodite,
Always desirous one,
Sensual lover,
to join us here and witness the joining
of _____and _____.
Grounding meditation

The HPriest and HPriestess motion the two people to be hand fasted to join them before the altar. Couple faces the altar.

HPriest:(to one of the couple, the female if the couple are of opposite gender)

Do you _____join us here of your own free will, to acknowledge before the Lord and Lady the bond that is shared between yourself and _____.

Person 1: (responds (hopefully this will be a yes 🙂 if not, go to closing).

HPriestess asks the other the same thing and gets response. Couple turns to face each other and join their left hands. Each now recites the vows they have prepared.

HPriest: (taking the joined left hands, and the rope)

Here before witnesses, _____ and _____ have sworn vows to each other. With this cord, I bind them to the vows that they each have made. (wrap the cord loosely around both arms) However this binding is not tied, so that neither is restricted by the other, and the binding is only enforced by both their wills.

Couple: (turning to face each other, in unison)

Heart to thee,
Soul to thee,
Body to thee,
Forever and always,
So mote it be.

Coven:

So mote it be.

Couple unbinds their left arms. Couple exchanges the gifts they have brought for each other. Coven members and guests give couple good wishes and/or gifts. Great Rite and Cakes and Ale. Bid farewell to God and Goddess as usual, or as below.

HPriestess:

We thank you Aphrodite, for your presence among us, and as you take your leave, we ask that you leave among us, in each of us, the ability to each be sensual lover, and desirous one.
Hail and farewell.

HPriest:

We thank you Eros, for your presence here this day, and ask, as you take your leave, that you leave in each of us, the ability to be
a bringer of desire, and kindler of love.
Hail and farewell.

Dismiss the Quarters, and open the circle.

Thursday This is Your Spell – To Bless And Consecrate Wedding Rings

April 15, 2010 at 9:09 am (Beginnings, Beltane, Blessing, Handfasting, Love, Magic, Marriage, pagan, Spell, Thursday, Witch)

To Bless And Consecrate Wedding Rings
Source Unknown

Needed:

  • the rings
  • bell (optional)
  • sage to smudge
  • blessings written by those to whom the rings will belong
  • chalice containing your preferred beverage for ceremonies
  • white Goddess Candle
  • black God candle
  • red candle to represent Fire
  • incense to represent Air
  • small bowl of Water
  • salt to represent Earth

To consecrate, bless and dedicate Wedding Rings to the Lord and Lady, first find the place where you wish to set up the altar. This place must not be disturbed, for it will take on sacred and holy energies, and you will not want anything to happen to this area.

Write two blessings to read to each other if you desire to and use some beautiful music if there is some available. Have a Chalice of wine on the altar to drink from after the blessing. Remember, the more energy and work that you put into your blessing ceremony, the more magical energy it will take on. You may use a bell to signify that you are beginning.

Once you have found that place smudge with sage, keeping “Love and Light” in your consciousness. Next, ask the four elements for their presence and for their blessing for your rings. Next, set up the altar, placing the rings you wish to bless on the altar gently. Arrange the candles to your liking, and the elemental representations in the appropriate locations. Once your altar is set up spend a few moments in quiet meditation thinking about what this Ring Blessing Ceremony means to you. Feel the magic around you. breathe in the Love and Light from the Lord and Lady. Visual yourself and your love for each other revitalized because of it’s presence. See yourself becoming more healthy, whole, and wise.
Say aloud the Blessings you have written for each other.
Sprinkle the rings with Salt for East; (Earth)
Pass rings over or through the red candle flame; South (Fire)
Sprinkle rings with water, West (Water)
Pass rings through Incense smoke, North; (Air)
Say something like:

"We pledge these rings consecrated to the Lord and Lady
to each other as an outward symbol of our love for each other ."

Drink from the Chalice holding it each to the others lips. Replace Chalice. When you are ready to end your Ring Blessing Ritual; sound the bell once (if you opted to use it) again, thanking all elements for their presence and assistance. Release them back to their abodes, asking harm to none on their way. Thank the Lord and Lady for their presence in your life. Take a deep breath of the fresh magic around you and aver: So mote it be!

Monday Make A – House Happy Charm

April 5, 2010 at 9:36 am (Beginnings, Beltane, Blessing, Crafts, Home, Life, Magic, Monday, pagan, Witch)

House Happy Charm
From Ravenhawk’s Academy of Magick & Mysticism

This is a small sachet pillow stuffed with good things, an excellent gift when people newly in love move in together. All the while you’re assembling it, focus on their hopes, dreams and your bright wishes for their hearth. Make a small pillow (5×5 square) from an interesting material. Leave one end open for stuffing.

Gather, mix and empower the following herbs:

  • Sage and Sandalwood for blessing and protection
  • Lavender for domestic tranquility
  • Rose petals to honor their love
  • Vervain for bright witchery
  • A couple drops of cinnamon oil.

Stuff the pillow and sew the open end shut. Decorate as desired In sacred space, dedicate it under the auspices of the Lord and the Lady. If you’re blessing your friends home for them, include the pillow in the ritual. If they’re doing their own home blessing, offer it as a house warming gift.

Friday Form A Circle – Celli Laughing Coyote’s Beltane – A Solitary Ritual

March 26, 2010 at 9:45 am (Ancestors, Beginnings, Circle, Earth, Friday, Garden, Magic, pagan, Plants, Ritual, Solitary, Witch)

Celli Laughing Coyote’s Beltane – A Solitary Ritual
by Celli Laughing Coyote
Found at
Tarna’s Mystic Realm

This can be done indoors or outdoors, please choose your plant accordingly. This is a good time to do your yearly tree planting also.

Needed:

  • altar set up
  • crystal
  • feather
  • tobacco or sage
  • fertilizer
  • tree
  • plant or seeds
  • some soil and a pot or prepared ground
  • water
  • a pan or basin of some sort – if you are inside in an area that is big enough to do some repotting and watering.

Pre-wet the potting soil so you don’t need to do much watering or dig hole for plant or tree. Cast circle in the usual way, Then say:

"I have come here to nurture and replenish our Mother, the Earth, by planting and caring for one of her children. So I show my love of her and Humanity. I have come here to bring forth a new life unto our Mother’s and Father’s service. For the greatest of blessings is service."

Smudge plant, crystal, potting soil and any fertilizer, feather and anything that will be placed into the soil/hole. Then meditate with the crystal for a few moments upon the purpose of this ritual. Then: (substitute your own deities if you wish), add small amount of soil to pot and say:

"Grandfather Eagle, Bless this Child of Earth with clean air for growth."

Place feather in pot/hole and say:

"Grandmother Rabbit, Bless this Child of Earth with passion for growth."

Place ash from smudge holder in hole [make sure it is out]. Then place plant in pot with dirt about 1/2 the way up and say:

"Grandfather Bear, Bless this Child of Earth with sufficient water for growth."

Pour Water into hole – save some water for the end of the ritual, and say:

"Grandmother Buffalo, Bless this Child of Earth with sufficient food for growth."

Place fertilizer in hole or pour a little more water in if it is the kind that you mix with water. Say:

"Great Spirit, Bless this Child of Earth with your protection."

Place Tobacco/sage in hole. Say:

"Mother Earth, Bless this Child of Earth with your Nurturing Love."

Place what Crystal in hole. Say:

"Ancestors and Totem Spirit, Bless this Child of Earth with growth and your Guidance."

Place the extra smudging sage in hole. Fill in the pot with dirt. If you have a song or poetry say it at this time. pour the rest of the water over the plant (please don’t drown the plant in water) and say:

"Blessed Be!"

Bless and eat your cakes and wine. If your plant is outdoors give your offerings to the plant – if it is indoors or in a pot just leave a crumb and a drop and take the rest outdoors. Cake tends to have sugars in it and it could cause mildew or encourage bugs to live in your plants. Close your circle as usual.

February 11, 2010 at 10:49 am (Beginnings, Magic, Ostara, pagan, Spell, Thursday, Witch)

New Beginnings Spell
Unknown Source

You will need:

  • A gold candle (for the sun, new beginnings)
  • orange candle (creativity)
  • a pink candle (self-improvement)
  • a small pot of soil
  • seeds to symbolize your new beginning

This spell is best done in the morning, on a new moon, on a Saturday. Meditate with the seed, visualizing a dawn. See the world beginning anew, the birds waking, etc. When you are ready repeat the following:

“*Aurora goddess of dawn,
Help me start anew
Guide me with sure steps
So I find my beginning,
With harm to none,
By my will so mote it be.”

Plant the seed and nurture it, until it is big enough to be on it’s own in the yard.
